How To Use BabyWordTime
When to Start?
Once your baby can follow your finger back and forth, they are ready to learn to read.
The 10 Month Process to Read
Rule #1: Same time, same place, every single day
Example: eating breakfast at 9am, in the chair in their room 1Pm, after bathtime 7pm
Month 1
Volume Set #1 Everyday
Same time, same place, every single day
Everyday During Breakfast
Volume 1 DVD
Have child watch while eating breakfast
Engage with child as they are watching
When you are having fun with the video, the child will
Everyday before Nap Time
Volume 1 Sliding Cards & Lift-the-Flap Book
Time a time everyday. Say “It’s WordTime” in a fun way.
Pick a quiet room, with no toys and place to sit where you will have your back to a blank wall and go to that place every time for word time.
Have them sit in front of you in their stroller or feeding chain and buckle it. :) Makes things waaay easier trust me haha
(They as you do this every day, they WILL start getting antsy and want to stop, don’t give up…
There WILL be times you do not feel like doing WordTime, push through, don’t give up…
You may skip a day because you convinced yourself that you were “too busy or too tired”… but found yourself still watching TV by the end of the day… hmph… haha
Get back to it the next day)
How to Read the Words
Read each word like in the video.
Slide your finger under the word as you are reading it.
Ex. Word - Dog
Say “Dog” 2 times, not fast, not slow, while sliding their finger under the word…
Then show the picture of the dog
Then you act out what a dog does, say things like “The dog says woof!”
Then have them act out a dog (DO NOT HAVE THEM GET UP, you will be there forever)…
Then point back to the card again “Dog”, sliding your finger under the word
Then point back the picture of the Dog and say “Dog”.
Next Word… Do the same thing to each word.
Then do the Lift-The-Flap Book… Same process…
This should take no longer than 20 mins…
Go through each word process quickly but make it fun
Everyday before Dinner
Read DVD #1
You are preparing dinner, they are going wild…
Pop on this bad boy and have them sit down and watch
Figure out ways to engage while you are cooking
Everyday before Bedtime
Discover DVD #1
If you make “DVD Time Fun…”
You will never have a problem with bathtime or bedtime again… Watch!
Say this “You ready for DVD Time?!”
They will say “yes, or no” doesn’t matter…
The response is ALWAYS “Great! Let’s take bathtime and do DVD time!” Don’t ask them, just do it… Have confidence and assertiveness without aggression and they will follow you…
Pick them up, and you have them in the bath haha
Bath done… DVD Time is on…
Figure out how to make it fun and tire them out… They are KNOCKED if you do this right…
